NZGA Submission: Second Emissions Reduction Plan
Reports & Submissions
The Ministry for the Environment (MfE) has sought consultation for its second emissions reduction plan (ERP2), proposing the means to achieving the Government's climate strategy.
The NZGA prepared this submission, urging MfE to incorporate the direct and cascade use of geothermal heat (Geoheat) as a part of ERP2. Geoheat is sustainable, reliable, and available throughout Aotearoa New Zealand. Supplying temperatures ranging from 4oC to 220oC, the possible applications of Geoheat are multitudinous. Within the submission, the NZGA highlights the necessity for more public education on Geoheat opportunities, and calls for leadership from central and local government.
Amidst the current important conversations on energy security and sustainability, the NZGA encourages the New Zealand Government and governments throughout the world to enable responsible use of the geothermal resource, providing clean, dependable energy.
